How to Sew a Fitted Tablecloth for a Market Stall
This project will create a simple fitted tablecloth that is open at the back & covers to the floor at the front & short sides.
You may begin with a purchased tablecloth that covers your table sufficiently, or a length of fabric to make your own.
Start by laying your cloth evenly across the table. Ensure the fabric reaches to the floor at the front and along each short side.
Excess fabric will pool at the front corners: this is what we are working to eliminate in this sewing project.
Next, help the cloth to neatly wrap around the sides, gathering up excess fabric towards the tabletop.
Adjust the top layer so that it lays flatly again. Excess fabric will now be folded underneath in a large triangle.
Pin through all layers to create a seam from front to back corners.
Sew both seams, stitching close to the folded edge for a neat finish.
Trim away the excess fabric and finish with an overlock stitch.
Ta Da!
You now have a perfectly fitted tablecloth for your next market day.
